Countess Cosel, born Anna Constantia von Brockdorff, rose to prominence as the mistress of Augustus the Strong. After a scandalous youth and a failed marriage, she became Augustus’s lover, receiving a secret contract that declared her his wife. Elevated to the rank of Imperial Countess, her influence and ambition grew too great for the King. Augustus replaced her with a new mistress for political reasons, and after a series of disagreements, Countess Cosel was imprisoned for life at beautiful Stolpen Castle.
